George Emil Palade
George Emil Palade was a Romanian cell biologist, which was described as "the most influential cell biologist ever".
Together with Albert Claude and Christian de Duve in 1974 he was awarded with the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine. Palade also received the U.S. National Medal of Science in Biological Sciences in 1986.
Dumitru Dorin Prunariu
Dumitru Dorin Prunariu is a retired Romanian astronaut, the first and only Romanian astronaut. In May 1981 he completed an eight-day space mission on board Soyuz 40, and became the 103rd human being to fly into the Outer Space. He received the awards of Hero of the Socialist Republic of Romania, Hero of the Soviet Union, medal "Golden Star" and the Order of Lenin.
Simona Amanar
Simona Amanar is a Romanian gymnast. She helped Romania to win four consecutive world team titles (1994 – 1999) as well as the 2000 Olympic team title. She is a seven-time Olympic medalist and a ten-time world medalist. She was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 2007.
Vlad the Impaler
Vlad III, Prince of Wallachia or Vlad the Impaler or Dracula was a ruler mainly from 1456 to 1462. He spent much of his rule campaigning against the Ottoman Empire and its expansion. He become famous as a tyrant taking sadistic pleasure in torturing and killing. The total number of his victims is estimated in the tens of thousands.
Ion Irimescu
Acad. PhD Dr. Honoris Causa Ion Irimescu was one of Romania's greatest sculptors and sketchers, named “patriarch of Romanian art and sculpture". In 1975 a museum was established in Falticeni with a substantial donation from the artist, with his 313 sculptures and 1,000 drawings. In 2001 he was awarded the Prize of Excellence for Romanian Culture.
